This website is dedicated to the descendants of Tillman Towry and Ollie Victoria Williams Towry—their children, grandchildren, and the generations that have followed. While you'll also find information about the families they came from and the families they married into, the heart of this site is the descendants of Tillman and Ollie.
A quick note: Because this is a private website created just for our family, you won't find it through a Google search. To visit the site, simply type www.TowryCousins.org into your browser's ADDRESS bar. (Not the search bar) Please be sure to include the www, as leaving it off will result in an error message. (I'll figure out how to fix that eventually!)
Like many families, we've spread across the country over the years. Some of us grew up together, while others have never had the chance to meet. My hope is that this website will help bring us a little closer by preserving our shared history and giving us a place to reconnect.
As I've researched our family, I've realized how quickly memories can disappear. We've lost most of the people who knew them and who carried our family's stories firsthand. Photographs become separated from the names and stories of the people in them, and family histories can be forgotten. I didn't want that to happen to our branch of the Towry family.
Here you'll (eventually :-)) find family photographs, genealogy, obituaries, newspaper articles, documents, cemetery information, and stories about the people who came before us. Some pages will simply record facts, while others will celebrate the personalities, traditions, and memories that made our family unique.
This is a work in progress and I ask for your patience since this is the first web site I've ever built. I will continue adding information as I discover it and as time allows. It will continue to grow over time. If you have photographs, stories, documents, or memories you'd be willing to share—or if you spot something that needs to be corrected—I would be grateful for your help. Every contribution adds another piece to our family's story.
I'm one of the younger cousins, and unlike many of you, I didn't grow up in Tennessee or Michigan. Most of my memories of the family come from summer visits and family funerals. Because of this, there are countless stories, pictures and family memories that many of you grew up knowing but that I never had the chance to learn. My hope is that some of those stories can be shared here. For years I've wanted a place where our family's photographs, stories, and history could all be gathered together instead of being scattered among dozens of people. I hope we can make this into something we can all appreciate.
I also want to recognize Betty Towry, who spent many years keeping track of our family's history. Her dedication preserved information that might otherwise have been lost. I'm grateful for the time and care she devoted to our family.
Whether you're here to learn more about your roots, identify an old photograph, reconnect with cousins, or simply browse through our family's history, I hope you find something that makes you smile and reminds you that we're all part of the same story.
